It is starting to look like
there is an EXCELLENT chance that the Mandatory Voter I D Law will in
fact make it onto the 2026 ballot. All indications are that if it gets
to the ballot it will be passed. So far the gatherers have over 600,000
signatures and more than enough time and more than enough money to get
it over the finish line.
There
is of course a possible problem. The governor and the legislature.
They are sneaky bastards. When the voters overwhelmingly passed
Proposition 36 recently to force druggies into either rehab or prison
the governor and legislature, who collectively hated the voters for
doing this, simply underfunded the measure making it impossible to fully
implement it.
When the
voters not once but twice indicated their desire to not only maintain
the death penalty in CA but to speed up its glacial process Governor
Newsom declared a moratorium on its use and ordered that the execution
chamber at San Quentin be physically dismantled. Kind of a FUCK YOU to
the voters.
The Voter I D
law will be harder to fuck with, and will be implemented at the county
level. A LOT of the local jurisdictions WANT this to go ahead. I
honestly don't know what it will require in the way of funding to do
this. It may even be possible they will save money on mailing costs of
nothing else.
Never the less you can count on "them" screwing with things if they get the chance. I have no doubt of this.
