The Thomas Fire burning in SoCal is still growing. It is now at 50% containment as I write this but expected winds on Wednesday night could change that dramatically. The fire hos now consumed 423 square miles approaching the record of 427 square miles. The state has been keeping records on this stuff since 1932. (I earlier said 1946. Passed on bad info. Sorry about that.)
Full containment is not expected for another three weeks, more or less. During that time the fire will almost certainly move to number one on the burn parade, a dubious honor. So far the fire has killed two people and destroyed several hundred homes as well as other structures. There are close to 8,000 firefighters actively engaged against this monster.
