The Thomas Fire in SoCal will be above 275,000 acres in three counties by the time you read this. Increased winds on Sunday will have made portions of the fire very erratic even though it is now burning into burn scarred areas from 7-10 years ago, which may slow it down.
It is now officially the third largest wildfire in CA since they have been keeping track, which is about 70 years. There are areas where the fire crews are now on building protection mode. That means they are trying to keep (large expensive) houses from burning and letting the fire bypass them.
Right now CalFire does not think they will have this one fully contained until around New Years.
