Nearly a year ago the arrogant one-party legislature of the formerly great state of California rammed huge tax increased down the throat of the CA taxpayer. This tax increase hit both motor fuel and VLF (vehicle license fees) pretty hard. ALLEGEDLY this money will be used to fix roads. That is the same excuse that has been used in at least two similar tax increases within my memory. On both occasions the rapacious bastards in the legislature "diverted" the funds to other more pressing needs, and continued to let the roads and bridges turn to shit.
Even if the repeal of the tax is NOT successful (it is fairly close the last I heard) it will tend to bring out the vote for anti-tax-and-spend voters, who will also tend to vote in a fashion that passes for conservative in California. That worries the knee-jerk liberal cabal that runs CA as it may imperil their occasional super-majority on both houses of the legislature. (That super-majority comes and goes depending on how many liberal members of the legislature are in jail or have resigned under pressure at any one time.)
