SCOTUS AND E-COMMERCE

by Bob Walsh

Yesterday SCOTUS ruled that state and local jurisdictions can in fact levy sales tax on internet sales. CA and Amazon came to an agreement on this a couple of years ago and many good size internet sellers already do this, but the little guys will have a lot of trouble with it.

There are literally thousands of overlapping tax jurisdictions in the country and figuring out how much to charge for what zip code can get interesting.
