CA SUPREME COURT PROTECTS COPS ..... THIS TIME

by Bob Walsh

In a move yesterday the CA Supreme Court voted unanimously to reject a lawsuit that, if successful, would have made it much easier to sue cops for crashes that occur during police pursuits.

Current state law says that the cops are immune in these circumstances IF a) they have a written pursuit policy, b) provide annual training on the subject and C) have documentation that the training was given to all officers. The court acknowledged that for some very large agencies it might not be possible to provide certification that absolutely every officer on the force had the training and that the immunity may continue even in those circumstances.

I like when the courts use common sense. Good job!
