The Pittman-Robinson act has collected money since 1937 from ammo and gun manufacturing excise taxes. A newly passed federal bill, signed into law by President Trump, provides a huge amount of funding to build new recreational shooting ranges at the state level. This bill has languished in the system for over ten years.
The new program would provide federal funding of 90% for such ranges. Previously the feds only provided 75%. It also stretches out the actual use clock to five years, necessary in a practical sense due to acquisition and permitting issues.
