JUSTICE SERVED 3 TIMES IN ONE WEEK

Daniel Lewis Lee, Wesley Purkey and Dustin Honken were all executed this week at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute

By Howie Katz

On Tuesday the federal government carried out the first execution in 17 years.  Daniel Lewis Lee's was put to death with a single dose of pentobarbital for murdering a family of three in 1996.

Lee's execution was followed by that of  Wesley Purkey on Wednesday.  Purkey murdered  a 16-year-old girl and an 80-year old woman in 1998.

Dustin Honken was executed on Friday.  He had murdered three adults and two children in 2014.

In each case, last minute appeals were rejected 5-4 by the Supreme Court with the four liberal justices opposing the executions.

87-year-old Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is suffering from recurring bouts with cancer, is hanging on to keep President Trump from appointing another conservative justice.  If Biden beats Trump, he will be able to tilt SCOTUS in the liberal direction.  Then those last minute appeals will be upheld.  A liberal court could revisit the death penalty and declare capital punishment unconstitutional.

The United States Constitution specifically speaks to the legality of the death penalty. That being said, the court managed to twist ObamaCare into a tax so the proposition that the court could decide that UP is in fact DOWN is not too far-fetched.
