I
used to be a state board member and a local board member of the
California Correctional Officer's Association, the union that represents
the rank-and-file peace officers employed by the California Department
of Corrections (and rehabilitation).
Every
year that association holds a training session - convention somewhere
or other. It is also needed regularly (every three years now I think)
for state board elections. The organization is very "flat." The local
chapters, about 35 of them, elect local boards. The local boards elect
state officers.
It WAS
going be in Vegas this year. They did use to try to hold them in
various places in California but it turned out to be significantly less
expensive to hold them in Reno and Vegas due to room rate costs.
In
any event this year they cancelled the Vegas gig, allegedly due to
Covid, and are holding the meeting in the three offices, in West
Sacramento, Fresno and Rancho Cucamonga. The meetings are required by
the union charter so they can't really just cancel them.
Some
of the CA asswipe politicians screamed like mashed cats when they
thought the board members might actually get to go somewhere and
interact face to face with actual human beings.
