Ex-detective indicted in Alabama ‘love triangle’ park slaying
A former Alabama police detective accused of killing a woman in a “love triangle gone wrong” has been indicted on a capital murder charge, according to a report.
Alfreda Fluker, a 40-year-old ex-detective in Birmingham, was indicted last month by a Jefferson County grand jury in the April 10 fatal shooting of Kanisha Nicole Fuller and the attempted murder of her partner, Det. Mario Theodore White, AL.com reported Thursday.
Fluker, who was off-duty at the time, had been romantically involved with White for roughly a year at the time of the shooting. Both had been assigned to Birmingham’s crime reduction unit, the outlet previously reported.
Fuller, 43, was shot multiple times in an unmarked police car that was assigned to White, who was not hurt during the shooting in Germania Park. Fuller, who was shot at least once in the head, was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Fluker, a 15-year department vet, was the suspected shooter. She has since been terminated by Birmingham police, while White has resigned, according to the report.
An investigator testified in June that 15 shell casings found at the scene matched Fluker’s 9mm service weapon. One bullet tore through Fuller’s head and cellphone records reportedly placed the off-duty detective at the scene of the fatal shooting.
“They will be coming to get me soon,” Fluker told her mother after allegedly killing Fuller and shooting at White, court testimony shows.
Fluker, a mother of three, later surrendered to cops without incident at her mother’s home. She’s been held without bond since that time and a trial date has not been set, AL.com reported Thursday.
Birmingham’s police chief, meanwhile, has said that the romantic relationship between Fluker and White had been “going on for a little while” without anyone else knowing in the department.
“This is not a press conference that I wanted to give today or any other day, but it’s about the facts and the realities of life,″ Chief Patrick Smith told reporters in April.
“It’s a press conference about a love triangle gone wrong, something that happened very bad this morning.”
