The
District Attorney of the People's Republic of San Francisco, Chesa
Boudin, is a hard-core leftist radical. He pledged, among other things,
to NEVER charge a person under 18 as an adult no matter what the
circumstances of the crime were.
The
young man in question participated in a shooting at an illegal side
show in San Francisco. He is 17 years old and is being charged with
murder, two counts of ADW with a semi-automatic firearm, assault likely
to produce GBI and discharging a firearm in public.
The
cops approached the prosecutor's office and asked if they would either
prosecute the asshole as an adult, or would transfer the case to
Sacramento. Boudin wouldn't make that promise. So the cops asserted
that there is some sort of nexus to Sacramento County and have in fact
presented the case in Sacramento county. Sacramento does about 2,500
juvenile actions per year. About 1% of them are referred to adult
court.
The shooter was from
Sacramento and was facing attempted murder charges in that county
already. The dead guy from the San Francisco shooting was also from
Sacramento. It is highly unusual, but not unknown, for a case that
occurred entirely in one county to be tried in another. The law also
tends to favor trying juveniles in their county of residence.
