The
facts are actually pretty clear in this tragedy. On August 27 a
gunfight broke out between two teenagers at a high school football game
in Sharon Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The cops showed up and
engaged the shooters (sort of). A police bullet killed Fanta Bility,
age 8. The two original shooters are being charged with the girl's
murder.
Three cops showed
up. For some reason or other the cops opened fire on a vehicle that the
child was a passenger in. She died from a single gunshot wound to the
back.
Angelo Ford, 16, and
Hasein Strand, 18, have been charged with first-degree murder and
aggravated assault in the case. One person was wounded in their
crossfire. The cops shot an additional three bystanders, including the
little girl. One of those wounded was the dead girl's 13-year old
sister. Neither of the bad guys was injured as far as is known. Ford
is now in custody. Strand is still in the wind.
The
bottom line is that cops shot four people, none of who was a bad guy.
The bad guys shot one person, collateral damage. The bad guys without
question precipitated the incident. Their lawyer is without question
going to make the bystander's injuries as deaths the fault of police
incompetence and poor shooting. It will be interesting to see what a
court and eventually a jury has to say about it.
The lawsuits have already been filed.

Sounds like the injuries and deaths was because of the cops incompetence and poor shooting.
I get your point Bob. I get that...legally speaking...this is a stretch.
Thing is...I have absolutely no problem with two teenagers who brought guns to a football game and "participated in a gunfight" being charged with murder. Whether the actual killing was done by an incompetent cop or not.
I have to admit being on the fence on this one personally. More facts would be helpful. Like why the cops chose to fire at / into the particular car, if in fact that was a choice and not just where the rounds landed when they missed while shooting at the bad guys. This one is going to be heavily analyzed, that's for sure.
