Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas last week vowed to exact vengeance upon Israel following the killing of three terrorist suspects in a shootout with Israeli forces.

Last Tuesday, Israeli special forces ambushed a Palestinian terror cell in a rare daytime operations in the city of Nablus (biblical Shechem) in central Samaria. The cell had been responsible for recent shooting attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

The terrorists were reportedly preparing to open fire when the Israeli force shot first and killed them. Two automatic rifles were found in the terrorists’ car.

The three men belonged to the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, an armed militia affiliated with Abbas’ own ruling party Fatah.

At their funeral on Thursday, the Palestinian president insisted they had been _”murdered by the vile Zionist occupier.”_ He further vowed: _”These incidents will not go idly by. We will not allow them to reoccur, nor will we remain quiet. We will get back at them \[Israel] twice as hard.”_

There is widespread suspicion that the Palestinian Authority security forces were involved in helping Israel locate the three terrorists as part of ongoing security coordination. If so, then Abbas’ promise of revenge was likely just political rhetoric aimed at appeasing the “Palestinian street.”
