In this episode of “Urban Legend,” The Post’s metro desk reporter Kevin Sheehan explores the city’s reaction to the rise in violent crime. When he went to a housing project in the Bronx, he found one resident had placed a Ring doorbell camera in the hallway. “She was listening to us and watching us as soon as we got off the elevator,” he said.

It’s just one way New Yorkers are protecting themselves against potential threats. Another woman went viral for chaining herself with a bicycle lock to the subway platform to prevent strangers from pushing her onto the tracks. “The fear is not fake,” Sheehan explains. “They have to keep living. They don’t have the option of crawling up into a ball.
