The legislature and the governor of the formerly great 
state of California determined that anti-jaywalking laws predominantly 
impacted non-white inner city dwellers and were therefore both racist 
and unfair.  It is therefore no longer illegal to jaywalk in 
California.  You are still not supposed to unreasonably interfere with 
vehicle traffic except while in a crosswalk or crossing at a corner, but
 those evil racist police officers can not longer harass poor inner-city
 nonwhite residents just because they are strolling across the street in
 the middle of the block.

I think it's great. The cops barely have anything to do and are making record amounts of money and benefits.
Sounds like a good law. Never understood why it should be illegal to cross an empty street anywhere you wanted.
