Homerville is a small burg in South Georgia. Their Chief
of Police, Dearin "Mack" Drury, 40, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau
of Investigation on February 19 due to alleged mishandling of
evidence.
The Clinch
County S. O. reported the incident to the GBI and began an
investigation. On February 25 the command staff and other members of
the Homerville P D all resigned.
A
special meeting of the Homerville City Council occurred on February 25
and appointed James Herndon to be the interim chief. The Clinch County
S. O. is handling calls for service in Homerville until the new Interim
Chief can get his department up and running.
The old chief is charged with theft, possession of marijuana, making false statement and violation of oath of office.
The
Clinch County S O was very supporting of the former staff of the
Homerville PD and essentially said that the city council was inteferring
with the legitimate operations of the department.
Homerville
has a population of less than 3,000 people. It is unclear from the
articles I have read how many staff the department had before this mess
started, but it was at least five total.
