Town manager Justine Jones was accused of creating a toxic work environment at the Kenly Police Department
Regular readers will remember
that I wrote recently about the Kenly, N.C. police department. They
were notable in that the entire police department resigned over the beef
with the town manager, citing a toxic work environment. Shortly after
that the town manager was fired, only three months into her two year
contract.
The town has just
hired James Ayers as their new Chief of Police. Ayers started his
career in 1993 and resigned as chief in Enfield, N.C. last September.
He cited an oppressive and hostile work environment by town leaders as
his reason for leaving.
The
current staffing of the Kenly P.D. is the new chief and one reserve
officer. The chief says he hopes to be up and running at regular
staffing by the end of summer.
