China's contribution to global warming
The 28th Annual United Nations Climate Change Conference,
aka Conference of the Parties, aka COP28, is getting ready to wind
down. The Greenies are foaming at the mouth because there are actual
reasonably bright human beings out there who do not agree that we must
roll out civilization back into the stone age to maybe keep the planet
from getting 1.5 degrees warmer over the next 300 years. The meeting,
current under way in Dubai, has been going on about two weeks and is now
on overtime.
The first
draft, admittedly a no-go, suggests 8 points intended to take the world
to zero fossil fuel use by 2050. A new proposed text should come out
today.
Right now
consumption of fossil fuel supplies about 80% of the energy used on the
planet. Nuclear supplies a small but significant amount in some places
such as France. Solar and wind power supply a relatively insignificant
portion. China and India are still huge users of coal fired plants.
China is expanding their development of coal fired electrical
generation.
Basically
smaller-poorer countries want large wealthy fully industrialized
countries, like the U.S., to plunge themselves back into the early 19th
century while they continue on their merry way. Let them try freezing
in the cold and dark and see how they like it.
