WINTER SOLSTICE

The Winter Solstice is fast approaching.  This year it occurs at 7:27 p.m. Pacific Coast time on December 21.  That is nice.  I don't have to get up too early to sacrifice a cat to the sun god.  

Midwinter Day is very symbolic.  That is why saviors tend to be "born" on or around the winter solstice.  Osiris and Hercules were members of this club long before Yeshua ben Yosef came along.  This group also tend to be born in humble places, like caves and barns.  They also typically have rather fuzzy parentage.  

I don't really mind so much that the Christians have stolen our holidays.  I do wish they would give us credit for them every now and again.  In any event, enjoy the season and try to remember every once in a while where it came from.  Blessed Be.  And a Ho Ho Ho to you all.  (We pagans are very ecumenical.)
