HAPPY JEWISH DISCOVERY OF AMERICA DAY
By Bob Walsh
Christopher Columberg
Some
very interesting genetic research was just released by authorities in
Spain on Saturday. Over 20 years of detailed genetic and geneological
research on Christopher Columbus' remains have concluded he was almost
certainly a Sephardic Jew and was likely born in Valencia, Spain.
Previous
theories had abounded, the most common of which was that he was from a
family of weavers from Genoa, Italy. Some claims said that he was from
Hungary and even scandanavia. This research has been going on since
2003.
Columbus died in the
city of Valladolid in Span in 1506. At his request his remains were
buried on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribean. He was however much
later disinterred and moved to Cuba and then finally to Seville,
Spain.
The genetic sampling came not only from his remains but also those known to be his son Hernando and brother Diego.
About
300,000 Jews and a large number of Muslims lived in Spain but were
ordered to either convert to Christianity of leave the country in 1492.
It is believed that Columbus basically lied to conceal his origins to
avoid having to leave the country.
The research is considered by the experts to be extremely reliable.
EDITOR'S NOTE: How does Columberg sound?
And now you can add the antisemites and pro-Palestinians to the list of those demanding a name change for Columbus Day.

I went aboard one of the Columbus replica ships in Sacramento many years ago. You would have to have serious balls to sail one of those things across the Atlantic, especially if you were not reasonably sure what you would find on the other side and when you would get there. Those Caravels were fairly seaworthy I understand, but still.....They are shorter than a WWII era Patrol Torpedo Boat.
