On May 2, 1973 New Jersey State Police Trooper Werner
Forster was murdered in the line of duty. Joanne Debora Byron, aka
Joanne Chesimard, aka Assata Shakur, was convicted for her part in the
murder. She broke out of a prison in New Jersey in 1979 and made her
way to Cuba. She has been on the wanted list ever since, with a $2
million reward on her head. Two other members of the Black Liberation
Army took part in the murder. The trooper was murdered with his own
weapon while he was wounded and down.
She has recently croaked, in Cuba, at the age of 78. Probably of natural causes.
One of her cohorts, Clark Edward Squire, was paroled in 2022 at the age of 85. He was suffering from dementia.
