CHARGES AGAINST FLORIDA OFFICER IN HOSTAGE DEATH DISMISSED BY JUDGE

By Bob Walsh

The four cops charged in the deaths of UPS driver Frank Ordonez, 27, and 70-year old Richard Cutshaw who was driving nearby

Regular readers will recall I wrote recently about Jose Mateo, a Florida cop who was being prosecuted in the death of a UPS driver being held hostage during a shootout with bad guys who abducted him after an armed robbery back in 2019.  The bad guys instituted the shootout with the cops.  A Broward County judge, Ernest Kollra, has just ruled that the Florida stand-your-ground law does apply in this case and gives Mateo a legal defense.  Officer Maateo is currently on suspension.

Three other officers are still charged with manslaughter in the incident.  Their cases are for the nonce moving forward.

The Broward County State Attorney has appealed the ruling in this matter.
