CALIFORNIA MAY MOVE AGAINST SANCTUARY CITIES

But with 2/3 of the legislators being Democrats, it probably won’t

By Bob Walsh

California State Senator Jeff Stone, Republican (yes, there are a few here) announced yesterday that he is drafting a bill that would put a serious ding in Sanctuary City policy (in the unlikely event it is passed into law).

The bill would require that city and county prisoners be held in custody at least 48 hours after ICE has notified they are in custody if ICE has in fact notified the locals that the person is an illegal alien.

This effort was triggered by the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco by a multiple-deported illegal alien felon who kept returning to S F due to the sanctuary policy there. The murdered had been turned over to SF by the feds for an old marijuana charge that SF knew would not be prosecuted on. The feds requested that they be notified when SF was done with him. SF refused to do so, citing the city policy, and in fact let him walk.

Since the statehouse in CA is slanted approximately 2/3 Democrat-Socialist to 1/3 sort-of Republican, with a highly liberal Attorney General and highly liberal Governor the chances of this getting any traction whatsoever are pretty much zero.
