ON STRIKE, SHUT IT DOWN!!!

By Bob Walsh

Those readers who are in the same age group as BGB and I will remember that phrase shouted by students at college campuses across the country in the 1960s. Today (02-08) it is being shouted by the faculty of the California State University system.

They have been offered a 2% raise. They want 5% and have announced they will strike for five days during April to enforce their demands. They have already taken a vote, which overwhelmingly supported the strike. Obviously the significant warning and time delay is to attempt to pressure the system into kicking down.

Do they deserve it? Probably. Can the taxpayers afford it? That is more questionable. The faculty is not eating Ramen noodles and mac-and-cheese for dinner, at least not out of necessity. Many students, and many taxpayers, are. What’s fair, who should bite the bullet? Damned if I know. We will, however, probably find out what happens in the next month or so.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Fire the far-left bastards if they go on strike!

Like most union/association members, they will probably lose more money during the strike than they would get with the raise in a year. Just keep paying those union dues!
