When cops killed the hostage along with the crook, they made it look like the crook shot first
Cops in the central Brazilian city of Senador Cenado are in deep shit for staging the fatal shootings of a hostage and crook to make it look as if they were fired on first.
The case is a little confusing, but it seems that last Saturday evening Tiago Ribeiro Messias, 31, stole a relative’s car and sometime there after an armed robber commandeered the car. The gunman forced Tiago to flee when a cop car approached in response to the stolen vehicle report. When the chase ended, cops rushed the car and fired at it repeatedly, killing both Tiago and the gunman.
Then came the Oh Shit moment. Suddenly the cops realized that they had killed the hostage by mistake. So, one of the cops corrected that mistake by climbing inside the car and firing 18 shots through the car’s windshield. The cops maintained the windshield was evidence they were fired on first. There was just one itty bitty problem. It was all caught by surveillance cameras.
The investigation has been turned over to the Brazilian military police. The military police report that the video footage shows the cops were wrong. Four cops have been removed from street duty and placed on administrative duties pending completion of the investigation.
This reminds me of the fatal shooting of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton by Chicago cops in 1969. The cops fired several shots through Hampton’s apartment door before entering. Later they removed the door and took it to the crime lab which remodeled it to make it look like the bullet holes were caused by gunfire coming from inside the apartment.
