SOME ARRESTS ARE EASIER THAN OTHERS

by Bob Walsh

On Friday afternoon the CHP and Calaveras County S O were dispatched to the scene of a hit-and-run in Valley Springs. (Nice little town by the way.) They found the 47-year old victim, James Leslie, unconscious and injured. He had allegedly been deliberately hit with a vehicle driven by Thomas Bechtold, 29. They two men had apparently been involved in some sort of an argument that turned unpleasant.

At about 7:30 that evening the S O got a phone call telling them that Bechtold was back at the scene of the accident. They dispatched a vehicle and found the suspect. Some person or persons unknown had beaten the shit out of him and tied him to a telephone pole.

Bechtold is being held against a $2.2 million bail on charges of attempted murder, ADW, battery with SBI and hit-and-run. The locals are not looking too hard for whoever thumped him.
