Press is a major law enforcement training and publication operation.
They recently conducted a poll of 10,000 working police officers. (I
suspect this would not constitute a scientific poll as I do not know
what the contact criteria was. I suspect they just solicited contact
from current working officers they had information on.)
In
any event not quite 7% of those officers responded that they would at
this time recommend a law enforcement career to someone considering work
in the field.
I
also note that the NYPD has cancelled their formerly scheduled upcoming
basic officers academy for new hires. So, in the face of record
numbers of retirements and transfers out the NYPD is not moving to keep
their numbers up, allegedly in an effort to conserve resources.
So, no
new cops. Fewer existing cops. Severe restrictions on overtime.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster, which is just what DeBlasio and his
fellow travelers want.

The class that NYPD cancelled was slightly over 1,100 new officers.
Recruiters at NYPD are like the Maytag repairman.
