IT'S NOT TRUMP OR BUSH ..... THE DEMOCRATS ARE TO BLAME

Blame Democrats for soaring crime, fallen police officers

Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a news conference with House Democrats to discuss the anti-corruption bill on Friday.

It was heartbreaking to watch another family of a fallen NYPD hero back at St. Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday. The mother of slain, 27-year-old Wilbert Mora — posthumously promoted to detective — looked as if she might collapse from grief as she stood beside the casket of her “giant teddy bear” of a youngest child.

Her surviving elder son, Wilson, talked about how, when he was small, his little brother would jump out of bed every morning and rush out to shower “Mommy” with hugs and kisses.

The mother of Mora’s slain partner Jason Rivera, 22, who was farewelled a few days ago with an equally formidable ocean of blue 10 blocks deep on Fifth Avenue, used to wait up for her youngest to come home from a late shift. She couldn’t sleep unless she knew he was safe, after he had kept New York City safe.

These well-loved sons of immigrant families who gave their lives for this city were two of six NYPD officers shot in the first five weeks of this year, a catastrophe that is the inevitable consequence of the orchestrated nationwide anti-cop riots of 2020.

“How many Wilberts? How many Jasons?” Mora’s sister Karina asked the congregation in a eulogy delivered in Spanish.

“How many officers must lose their lives so that this system changes? “How many more lives of those who protect us will be taken by violence and crime? How many mothers? How many mothers, how many sons will have to lose their families, to go through this trauma and this type of tragedy?”

Yes, how many?

Not random events

These attacks on police are not just random events out of anyone’s control, and they won’t go away on their own.

The law-and-order crisis in this city is entirely the fault of Democrats.

Progressives seized on community concern over George Floyd’s 2020 death at the hands of a Minneapolis cop to press their sinister race-baiting, anti-law-enforcement agenda. Democrats, right up to President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, pandered to them for base political advantage in the 2020 election.

Biden might be flying into New York to offer Mayor Adams solutions to the law-and-order crisis, but he helped create it. By indulging the defund-the-police/abolish-prisons/open-border bully fringe of his party, he helped create a climate hostile to policing, in which criminals rampage with impunity, brave cops like Mora and Rivera are sacrificed and the poorest neighborhoods are left unprotected.

You can’t put the genie back in the bottle by posing for photos with the “Biden of Brooklyn,” as Adams curiously calls himself. It’s a pointless p.r. exercise if all the two men talk about is the “iron pipeline,” that hackneyed catchphrase Democratic politicians use when they want to divert attention from their failed policies to their favorite topic of gun control.

It’s like Harris resorting to vague “root causes” for illegal migration. If they can’t stop 2 million illegal migrants barging over the southern border, how do they enforce border security across state lines to stop illegal guns?

White House press secretary Jen Psaki summed up the breezy attitude of the administration toward Americans worried about skyrocketing crime — about 80 percent of us, polls show.

“Soft on crime . . . what does that even mean?” she laughed in an interview, mocking Fox News for reporting on crime, unlike, she said, CNN and MSNBC, which are focused on the administration’s favored narratives.

“There’s an alternate universe . . . what’s scary about that is a lot of people watch that.”

Tell that to the Mora and Rivera families.

“We are not safe anymore, not even the members of the service,” Rivera’s widow, Dominique Luzuriaga, said in a eulogy at his funeral last Friday.

“I know you were tired of these laws, especially the ones from the new DA,” she said, addressing her late husband, and referring to progressive Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “I hope he’s watching you speak through me right now.”

Of all the high officials watching, the only person in this city brave enough to call out Bragg has been a weeping young police widow.

Her words are etched in blood. We cannot let it go to waste.

There have been fine and soothing words from our new mayor and NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, but no action. They carry our hopes and prayers that they will use their mandate and moral authority forcefully to undo the woeful policies that have stripped police of their powers and brought us to the edge of the abyss.

Giuliani weighs in

But one old warhorse has his doubts about Adams. Rudy Giuliani, the mayor who saved New York from the last era of rampant crime, says he initially dismissed the misgivings of friends about the current mayor.

“I hoped because he was a cop, he’d be a real mayor,” Rudy said.

But Adams’ mistake was not pouncing on Bragg the minute the DA issued his progressive manifesto, two days after taking the oath of office, says Giuliani. Following the blueprint of progressive DAs around the country, Bragg instructed prosecutors not to seek prison time for criminals and to downgrade felony charges on all sorts of crimes, including armed robbery and drug dealing.

“Every criminal read that as an invitation,” says Giuliani, “just like when the boy mayor of Minneapolis gave up the police station . . . That led to a summer of [riots and looting] with the cops watching . . .

“We are using the cops as the Greek chorus to the drama of the left’s takeover of America.”

This is what Giuliani would do if he were still in Adams’ shoes:

“I would invite Bragg to come in and see me. I would shut the door and tell him, ‘I want you to write a memo retracting everything you said, right now.’ ”

If Bragg refused, the mayor would go to Gov. Hochul.

“She’s up for election. That’s all she cares about. So, I would close the door and make her an offer she can’t refuse.

“I would say, ‘If you don’t fire Bragg, I’m going to watch every single crime. The first person who dies, I’m going to accuse you of murder.’ ”

In every city with a progressive DA, Giuliani can point to dozens of murders directly attributable to the failure to prosecute and jail recidivist criminals.

“What are the odds with [Bragg’s policies] in the next six months that one of these happens here?” Pretty good, sadly.

New Yorkers are at the point right now where they would enthusiastically back Adams to do whatever it takes to get tough on crime. That’s why he was elected, after all.

Base-ic advice for GOP

Reader Joan, from Connecticut, expresses the frustration with the GOP felt by a lot of conservative voters who are dismayed by unchecked illegal migration.

“As a lifelong Republican, I am fed up that they are not doing everything, including not working with Congress, until [the Biden administration] closes the border and stops moving illegals all over the country.

“To make taxpayers pay to bring [migrant] families here and give them free health care and subsidies . . . is an affront to all working-class Americans.”

If Republicans don’t step up, “they will lose their base, which they are too stupid to realize.”

It’s a warning that the GOP ought to take seriously.

I often wondered if that HR 1 FOR THE PEOPLE sign should be changed to HR 1 FUCK THE PEOPE. I guess I am by nature nasty and suspicious.
