Being An Asshole Costly Too ... Extremely So
by Bob Walsh
Vonelle
Cook, 77, was a regular customer at a Dunkin Donuts store in Tampa,
FL. While in the drive-thru Cook got very unpleasant with the drive
thru clerks as the clerks told him repeatedly that he could not
understand him well. Since Cook was being really unpleasant they asked
him to leave.
Instead of
leaving he parked his car and came inside the store. One of the
workers, Corey Pujols, asked another worker to call the cops. Cook
started being very mouthy and unpleasant and called and called Pujols an
unpleasant name. (Presumably Cook called him a nigger, but the news
story doesn't say precisely.) Pujols, very unwisely, walked around the
counter and instructed Cook not to say that again. Cook did. Pujols
flattened him with one punch. Cook died from a skull fracture and
concussion.
Pujols was
originally charged with manslaughter but the charge was downgraded due
to Pujols relative youth and significant provocation.
Pujols got 2 years house arrest and 200 hours of community service. It could have been MUCH worse.
