U.
C. Berkeley administration has a bunch of egg on their faces. They
must now rescind a minimum of 5,000 acceptance letters for the upcoming
school year in order to reduce enrollment overall by 3,050 students.
A
local bunch of rabble-rousers called SAVE BERKELEY'S NEIGHBORHOODS got
an order creating the enrollment cap due to "impacts of unmitigated
enrollment growth on low income housing in Berkeley." The school has
been stalling and trying to reach a settlement with the group. They
were unsuccessful. So they now have to deal with the enrollment issue
while they attempt to deal with the housing issue.
The school has known about the possible problem for months but went
ahead and issued acceptance letters anyway in hopes of reaching a deal.
They bet on the wrong horse.
