SEIU
Local 1000 is the largest state employee union in CA. In May of last
year the rank-and-file got radical and elected Richard Louis Brown to
head the union. He pledged to get the organization OUT of the political
endorsement business and back into the business of representing
employees.
On Sunday
three elected vice presidents of the union took action in an attempt to
suspend Brown from his job and lock him out of the union building.
Brown announced that he does not recognize the existence of the
suspension. Brown announced instead that he has suspended the three
vice presidents and has taken steps to lock them out of the building.
There
has been an ongoing fight since at least October over who is actually
running the union and who has the power to do what.
Seems likely to end up in court to me.
