Cruz has gone up the stairway to Pet Heaven
A friend of mine passed on to whatever comes next today.
His name was Cruz and he was a good dog. He had a rough but loving
life. His mother was a stray and was very sick when she delivered
something like 13 pups. She died shortly after. All of them had
various medical issues. Cruz had an overbite that gave him a perpetual
smile, which suited his personality. Unfortunately it also gave him
problems eating.
Cruz was
kind of odd. He liked puppies and kittens and young things of all
sorts. He sort of appointed himself as their guardian when they came
into his circle.
He liked
playing in the snow, and jumping in the water, and chasing balls. His
humans wanted to take him up to the snow last week, he had only been
there once, but was unable to make it work. He did get a trip to
Knights Ferry and ran around in the park and hid behind rocks and jumped
in the river and had a great time. Unfortunately his medical problems
have been catching up with him. His humans were having problems with
the costs involved and also they wanted to allow him to exit gracefully
and comfortably while he was still Cruz rather than being crippled,
sick and pain-ridden. So that's what happened earlier today.
Cruz was a very good dog. I will miss him.

Happy Trails, Cruz.
My deepest sympathy, Bob. Over time I've learned how profound the loss of Cruz can be. Years ago my Dobermann died suddenly of brain disease at the peak of her life. The wording of your comment about Cruz reveals self-restraint, I know.
