Houston man, 69, mauled to death by neighbor's three dogs as he protected his poodle from them

Three neighboring dogs attacked and killed a Houston man who was protecting his poodle from them  

 

HOUSTON, TEXAS: A Houston man was allegedly mauled to death by his neighbor’s dogs while he was protecting his poodle. The incident took place on Wednesday, February 1, when the victim noticed a commotion in his yard and saw his pet dog being attacked by the neighbor's dogs, and intervened. Before bringing down the 69-year-old man, the three dogs had jumped over the fence and attacked the poodle. A distress call was made at around 4 pm when officers responded to a home in the 5500 block of Sheraton Oaks Drive, informed Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson. 

 

Crowson added that upon arrival, officers found the victim on the ground being chewed on by one of the dogs which impelled an officer to open fire. As per station KTRK, a bullet hit the canine, but he survived and ran off. The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. While investigating, it was revealed that the dog owner tried to separate the dogs from the victim, but was charged and grounded by them. It is being said that the victim was physically disabled, though the official is yet to release his name officially. The breed of the dogs in question has also not been known as of Thursday, February 2.

Two cannines in animal control custody

Two of the three dogs are now in the custody of animal control as The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will now decide on whether the owner of the dogs will be charged with a criminal offence or not. Houston Police tweeted early on Thursday morning, "North officers are at 5500 Sheraton Oaks investigating the death of an adult male. Initial indications are the male was bitten by dogs. 202,” as per New York Post.

'This is my old neighborhood and I knew this man'

Many concerned people expressed their sorrow and frustration over the incident. One tweeted, "When is enough gonna be enough? When will you do something before something this tragic happens? People report animals and provide evidence and they're ignored and then BAM! Some poor dude is MURDERED in HIS backyard! Yall need to do better!” The second user wrote, Why are we hearing all the "dog" mauling stories all of a sudden. what is going on? Are people abandoning their dogs and leave them to fend for themselves? When I walked my dogs I always carried pepper spray, or large sticks. So so sad to keep hearing these stories." "This is my old neighborhood and I knew this man. He was not in his 30’s. He was in his 60’s. Unfortunately, he was severely disabled mentally and would not have been able to assess the situation and see the danger that was approaching. He truely was defenseless, one user claimed over Twitter while another advised, "Other people aren't the only reason to be armed; it's best to approach dogs with guns. RIP to the victim."
