Asteroid 2024 YR4 is headed for earth around Christmas in
2032. It is about 200 feet long and is considered to be a level 3 on
the impact hazard scale. It is the only Near-Earth Object (NEO)
currently at that level. That means it has a sort-of fair chance of
hitting us. With the current orbit calculation, which clearly will be
refined over time, they are saying it has about 1 chance in 83 of
actually hitting but will likely pass earth so close it will go between
the surface of the planet and many of the satellites.
Don't worry, Billy Bob Thornton and Bruce Willis will save us.
