Today
Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that will give $1 billion per year
for the next 20 years to the so-called High Speed Rail Authority.
The
project, which is now about 400 % of the original budget and about five
years past the originally scheduled completion date has yet to lay even
one mile of track. The train, if it ever runs, will also run
significantly slower than the "bullet train" originally promised.
The
current plan will connect North Buttcrack to South Buttcrack (also
known as Merced and Bakersfield) with semi-sort-of high speed rail in
the San Joaquin Valley by sometime in the future, more or less,
maybe-probably-possibly.
