A ROOUGH WAY TO MAKE A LIVING

by Bob Walsh

In days gone by owning a newspaper was like a license to print money. The owner-publisher could count on a 30% margin pretty reliably in the pre-internet days. That was then, this is now.

Alice Rogoff bought the Anchorage Daily News (now the Alaska Dispatch News) in 2014 for $34 million dollars. That wasn't that long ago, in 2014. They are now filing for bankruptcy and the paper is up for sale. The talking heads are saying the whole thing will go for about $1 million. That is one hell of a depreciation curve.
