The Supreme Court of the formerly great state of California acted Thursday to approve the implementation of Proposition 61.''
This proposition passed by 51% of the voters last November and is intended to streamline the administrative procedure of executing criminals in CA where more than 700 currently reside on death row. The court put a hold on it until the instantly filed lawsuits could be worked out. That just happened.
Don't hold your breath for executions any time soon. Governor Moonbeam may still slow-drag things and local courts will still interfere. There are, however, several guests of the state who have run out their appeals and could be terminally rehabilitated as soon as we collectively demonstrate the political will to do so.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Since the initiative only called for a suggested appeals timeline, and not a mandatory timeline, the effect of the ballot measure will hardly be noticed.
