Under California law there was a considerable window for the Newsom recall election.  The Democrats, who hold all constitutional offices and large majorities in both houses of the legislature, even changed the law to permit them to schedule the election earlier than would have otherwise been possible.  Their reasoning was  that things were looking good, Covid was being beat back and the schools would almost certainly be functioning normally by the scheduled September 14 election date.  

Whoops.

Ballot started coming out a week ago.  (I got all three of mine already.)  There are two MASSIVE wild fires burning in the state, due in large part to shitty state forest management.  Several cities in NorCal have kicked in water restrictions and three good size reservoirs in NorCal are at historic lows.  Electricity use is high and electricity reserves are poor.  The unvaccinated are filling hospitals and those of us who have been fully vaccinated are looking forward to yet another shot.  

The democrat-socialists may have guessed wrong.

School openings are running ragged.  The Dept. of Health in CA has mandated mask wearing for rugrats even though they are at small risk.  There is now a mandate for school staff to be vaccinated or submit to weekly Covid testing.  There is a significant pushback against this.  Surprisingly there is still significant pushback in the ranks of first responders and medical staff.  That may moderate somewhat now that one of the vaccines is on a regular, as opposed to emergency, use list.  A nationwide poll recently showed 92% of democrat-socialists support mask mandates where only 44% of republicans do so.  Talk about tribalism.

The heat wave last month was historic.  The Dixie Fire is approaching 750,000 acres with less than 40% containment.  The Caldor Fire has closed down Hwy 50, costing South Lake Tahoe about a million dollars a day.  It has burnt over 80,000 acres and has zero containment.    

Democrat-socialists are now urging voters to vote NO on the recall and refuse to pick a replacement candidate.  There is apparently some hope that if the vote for an individual replacement candidate is small enough it may give them footing to challenge the election in court.  Right now Black conservative Larry Elder is far in the lead for replacement candidates.  The split on the basic recall question is less than 2% in most polling right now, with Newsom in a slim lead.  The election is totally by mail and may generate huge amounts of fraud.

It will also be interesting to see how much damage Newsom will do on his way out the door.  If I recall correctly he is not removed immediately.  There is something like two weeks between the election and the new person taking office.  He could do a LOT of damage in that time, like for instance commute every death sentence in the state.

The commie bastard still might manage to hang on.  The RECALL YES people have a lot more interest than the RECALL NO people.  But then again how hard is it to return one or two of three or ten ballots.  You don't even have to put stamps on them any more.
