The
Caldor Fire has now jumped over Hwy 50 in several places, propelled by
spot fires generated by flaming debris carried by the wind. It has now
burned more than 90,000 and is zero percent contained. Highway 50 has
been closed between Sly Park and Myers, a distance of about 70 miles.
The smoke is causing health concerns and interfering with water and
retardant drops.
The
Dixie Fire is now burning in five different counties plus several
federal reservations. It is now somewhat over 30% contained. It is
still threatening Susanville.
