LYONS, CHICAGO: Two brothers from Lyons, Chicago, have made headlines for their strange and shocking admission as they claimed they have buried both their mother and sister in the backyard of their home. Michael and John Lelko, who have been found to be notorious hoarders, reportedly buried the body of their mother in the backyard, after she was killed by their sister. Later, their sister reportedly died of Covid-19 and she was also buried in the backyard.

The situation first came to the police's notice on Thursday, August 26, after they went to perform a welfare check on the brother duo. Both the brothers, who are in their 40s, were not seen by anyone for a long time, prompting the cops to pay a visit to the house. Even a utility company reported that there was no water usage at the house, which initially made police think that the resident has died. They had little clue about the horror about to unfold. Even the men's neighbors admitted not seeing them in more than a year. Suburban Chicago police are set to begin excavation work in the Lelko household to retrieve the two bodies.

Who are Michael and John Lelko?

The Lelko brothers were believed to be suffering from physical and mental health issues as was reportedly evident from their behavior. Police found the house filled to the brim with tons of garbage and debris. Bottles of urine were also stored and feces were smeared everywhere, as the house had no water connection or functional toilets. The property was teeming with several cats and dogs. "It was multiple liters of urine. Every room, the front door, the backdoor were completely barricaded with debris, boxes," stated Lyons Police Chief Thomas Herion. The cops rescued the brothers through a window as the rubbish was blocking all the doors.

When police interviewed them later, the Lelko brothers revealed that their mother died in 2019 from a stroke in her 70s. She was reportedly pushed down the stairs by their mentally ill sister in 2015, leaving her injured and vulnerable. They then stated that their sister later died from Covid-19 in 2019 — a claim creating suspicion since the pandemic started in the US around January 2020. Meanwhile, no records of their deaths have been found in the Illinois state register.

Both the mother and sister were buried in the backyard of the house, among the carcasses of other animals. The Lelko brothers claimed that they opted for their own backyard as the burial spots from Covid-19 fears and also to save on funeral expenses.

Though the hoarder brothers have not yet been charged with any crime, they were sent to a hospital for medical treatment and later put up in a hotel. Police stated that the case is presently being treated as a homicide investigation and they are trying to gather evidence.
