This
one is getting potentially very bad. Both Hwy 50 and Hwy 88 now
closed. Even fire trucks can't get over the Hwy 50 pass. Kirkwood has
been evacuated. They are evacuating a hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
The fire is spotting over the crest of the Sierras onto the east side.
If it gets away from them into the Tahoe Basin it could destroy 15,000
buildings, mostly houses. It is so smoky it is difficult or impossible
to run aircraft on it. Containment went DOWN today from 19% to 13%.
Wind tomorrow will be blowing towards the east in the morning, which is
exactly what they don't want.
