Saluting a fallen comrade
The National Fraternal Order of Police reports that as of 31 December, there have been 331 officers shot in the line of duty so far in 2022 (+6% from 2020 YTD; +13% from 2019 YTD). Of those officers shot, 62 of them were killed by gunfire (+32% from 2020 YTD; +24% from 2019 YTD).
There have been 89 ambush-style attacks on law enforcement officers this year. These ambush-style attacks have resulted in 126 officers shot, 32 of whom were killed by gunfire.
