This is one of those things that might be funny if it wasn't actually so damn tragic.

Christian Helger, 29, was a member of the Ski Patrol in Summit County, Utah.  He was a member of the staff of  the Park City Mountain Ski Resort there.

On Monday he was on the chairlift when a tree fell over and hit the cable behind him.  That caused the chair to bounce vigorously up and down, ejecting Helger from the chair.  He fell about 25-50 feet into a ravine full of deep snow.  It took the ski patrol about 20 minutes to respond and locate him and dig him out.  Helger died.

The lift he was on is closed until the investigation is completed.
