The Urban Christian Academy in
Kansas City, MO. has been around for nine years. In each of those nine
years it added another grade in the marginal neighborhood in which it is
located. The school provided a tuition free K-8 education to 100
children this year. This is also it's last year.
This
past winter Kallie Callaway-George, the executive director and
co-founder of the school, made a decision. She asserts the school has
always been supportive of the LGBTQ community in a quite, low-profile
way. She decided to move that support into a more public arena. In the
six months after doing so the financial support for the school dropped
42%. It is now, at the end of 2022, only 20% of its previous level. In
December of 2021 the school raised $334,000. In December of 2022 the
school raised $14,800.
