SUSD AUDIT TO BE RELEASED TODAY

By Bob Walsh

The Stockton Unified School District has been under audit for some time now.  The state has been trying to figure if the people running it are just massively incompetent or crooks.

The state Financial Crisis and Management Assistant Team has spent very nearly a full year examining the operations of the district in great detail.  There has been at a minimum serious incidents of failure to follow procedures with regards to approval for change orders for contracts.

The SUSD has a budget of $859 million and will be at least $30 million in the hole by next year.  After receiving the report later today the board has 15 days to respond to the County Superintendent of Education, Troy Brown.

The Civil Grand Jury has, for the last two years kicked the crap out of the district for fiscal mismanagement.  In fact the district quit having town hall meetings because the board members got tired of responding to allegations of thievery and stupidity.  It is generally believed the FBI is investigating the district for fraud, though the FBI has declined to comment.

Too bad I am otherwise occupied tonight.  That meeting might be fun to attend.
