Various news reports are reporting today (Wednesday) that the Office of Professional Responsibility within the F.B.I. (which is headed by an Obama appointee) has recommended that Jeff Sessions should FIRE Andrew McCabe immediately rather than letting him run out his time to a full pension. The rumor mill says that the cause is lack of candor (dishonesty)in dealing with an internal investigation. 9He will hit his full pension this coming Sunday.)
There is also open speculation that if Sessions refuses to do so Trump may use it as an excuse to sack Sessions.
Whichever way it goes we should know in a very few days.
