City Of Paradise Evacuated.....Again
by Bob Walsh
There
are now a number of fires burning in wine country and other areas of
northern California. The city of Paradise, in Butte County, is being
evacuated. It was pretty much burned to the ground two years ago. It
previously had about 25,000 residents. It is only about 1/10 of that
right now though the rebuilding process has gotten under way.
PG&E
has turned off power to about 11,000 residents of the foothills and
wine country and expect that they will shut off another 54,000. These
Public Safety Power Shutoffs are now taken when a combination of weather
conditions make it more likely that PG&E equipment will start
fires. Once the lines are shut off they have to be individually
visually inspected before the power can be turned back on. It takes
time.
They are running
100+ temperatures in much of northern and central California and will be
doing so much of this week. The relative humidity is under 15% in many
areas and there are areas of high winds. All of this is combining to
make the fire fighting situation dire.
There are teams from as far away as Israel and Australia operating in California right now.
Even areas like the North Bay and East Bay in the greater San Francisco Bay area are under red flag fire warnings.
It
is of course all Donald Trump's fault because he is a "climate
denier." Hell, he probably flew over in AF1 and dropped some flares to
start some of the fires.
