Tommie
Dale McGlothen Jr. was a Black man in Shreveport, Louisiana who had some significant mental
health issues. On April 5 he got into a hoorah with a homeowner in the
other man's residence. The dude was, at the time, pretty well spun.
The
cops showed up, had a tussle with him and eventually got him into the
back of a police car. They left him there for about 48 minutes. He
died.
The Caddo County
Grand Jury acting on Friday returned indictments against Officer Treona
McCarter, Officer Brian Ross, Officer D'Marea Johnson and Officer James
LeClare, all of the Shreveport P D. They have been charged with
negligent homicide and malfeasance.
The
cops had to use Tasers, night sticks and chemical agents to control
McGlothen. The coroner offered the opinion that the officers should
have reasonably known that McGlothen needed emergency medical care and
obtained it for him promptly after getting physical control of him.
This
encounter was the fourth McGlothen had with the local cops in a
relatively short period of days. All of the other contacts also
involved what would reasonably be called mental health issues.
