At the onset of our attacks on Libya, President Obama was visiting Brazil and made this statement: "We cannot stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people there will be no mercy.....We are answering the calls of a threatened people”
How noble of Obama to declare that Moammar Gadhafi's continued assault on his own people left the U.S. and its international partners with no other choice. OK. Now what about the people of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria? The rulers of those countries are also acting as tyrants in applying an iron fist to put down the protests of their own people.
Gadhafi has been an avowed enemy of the U.S. for 40 years, but the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen are our allies. And we depend on Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to supply us with much of our oil. That means we have to stand idly by while the people of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen are shot at by their own government’s police and military.
What about President Assad of Syria? In putting down protests, his troops are killing many of his own people. He and his late father have done that many times before. That makes Assad as much of a tyrant as Gadhafi. But Assad has a strong military, not a weak one like Gadhafi’s. That means we have to stand idly by while this tyrant shows his people no mercy.
And what about the people in the African countries of Sudan and Zimbabwe? We’ve had no problem standing idly by while thousands of Sudanese and Zimbabweans are being slaughtered at the hands of the tyrants that rule them.
Obama’s statement? What a joke!

In the progressive world, it's not about what you do or fail to do. It's about how you describe what you do or fail to do.
It's all about the rhetoric...
