In May of 2013, Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder said, "We will never change the name of the team." That was then and this is now.
"Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo," the team said in a statement Monday morning. The team did not say what its new name will be.
The team has been named the Redskins for 87 years.

__In early July, FedEx, which owns the naming rights to the stadium the team plays in, formally asked the Redskins to amend their name after 87 investors representing $620 billion in assets reportedly wrote a letter asking FedEx, Nike and PepsiCo to cut ties with the team if they refused to change the name.
__Last week, Amazon said it would no longer sell Washington Redskins merchandise on its website, giving third-party sellers 48 hours to remove Redskins-related items.
__Nike, Walmart and Target also declared they would pull Redskins merchandise from their stores and online outlets.
FedEx, Amazon, Nike, Walmart and Target have joined in with the BLM revolution by applying the "money talks, bullshit walks" principle.
Some names come to mind - Washington Surrenders, Washington Blackskins, Washington BLMs, Washington Native Americans, Washington Indigenous People, Washington Politically Correct.
